As
we age, healthcare issues become more and more critical.
However, in normal aging, there are no drastic changes
that occur at a certain age. No one suddenly grows
old. Never the less, we do experience physical changes
as we age. It is important that we distinguish between
health issues that may need attention and the normal
aging process.
What
is 'normal aging'? As we age, we may experience sensitivity
to heat, cold and medication. Sleeping patterns may
change. We may find that our sense of touch, hearing,
sight and smell are impaired. Muscles lose tone, the
lungs become more elastic, cartilage and other tissues
stiffen, and bones become more brittle.
There
are a number of diseases, in contrast, that are often
mistaken for normal aging. Unfortunately, they often
go untreated even though they may be treatable by
