Healthcare

As we age, healthcare issues become more and more critical. However, in normal aging, there are no drastic changes that occur at a certain age. No one suddenly grows old. Never the less, we do experience physical changes as we age. It is important that we distinguish between health issues that may need attention and the normal aging process.

What is 'normal aging'? As we age, we may experience sensitivity to heat, cold and medication. Sleeping patterns may change. We may find that our sense of touch, hearing, sight and smell are impaired. Muscles lose tone, the lungs become more elastic, cartilage and other tissues stiffen, and bones become more brittle.

There are a number of diseases, in contrast, that are often mistaken for normal aging. Unfortunately, they often go untreated even though they may be treatable by a physician. A few of these include:

Alzheimer's disease Glaucoma
Arthritis Heart Disease
Cancer Lung disease
Cataracts Kidney & bladder problems
Dementia Macular degeneration
Depression Osteoporosis
Diabetes (Adult onset) Parkinson's disease
Enlarged prostrate Vascular disease
